Then take a break…
For the last year I haven’t used a guitar pick at all, because I decided to learn with my fingers; which I have gotten pretty proficient at. But the prior 13 some odd years were spent with a guitar pick.
One of the things I really liked to do throughout this last year is Travis Pick. So all I did for a very long time was Travis Pick. I Travis picked so much that eventually I got sick of if; and sick of playing guitar in general. In fact the last week I have barely even picked it up (which is a very rare thing for me) - until this morning - when I started using a guitar pick and playing really simplistic strumming patterns. And for the first time in weeks, I’ve been totally enjoying the simplicity and pleasure of just playing.
I guess my point here, is to keep the flow going and to get inspired sometimes it’s important to take breaks from things you care about. I am sure I will love to Travis pick again in the future - but sometimes the worst mistake you can do when you want something is to never take a break. So if you feel you are not enjoying something like you used to (not just guitar); take a few days away from it, and then when you come back to it approach it differently then you did. A little time away and a new angle can be refreshing.

A few weeks ago, I felt like giving up guitar. You see, I am really new at this and at times it really feels like I am not making headway.
I walked away from guitar for about a month but now, I am back at it and more determined than ever to play really well. I still have problems with the C chord and that is one of the reasons I wanted to give up. I am improving and will soon be playing real music.
Thanks for that encouragement.

Keep in mind guitar all though very popular is a very hard instrument to learn. I won’t lie to you. It will take some time. But be patient and try to stay positive.
You will get there. Once you learn the C Chord and a couple others it will open a world to literally thousands upon thousands of great songs.
Don’t give up!
If your looking for more inspiration you might also want to read this post.
And if you have any direct questions about guitar you an always ask me in the forums. I try to answer every email or post I get, sometimes it takes a little while if I am busy and the question is hard, but I will get to it…
You may also want to find an instructor in your area if you can afford it. Or if you have a friend that is good ask him for a couple of pointers. Even 30 minutes spent with someone with some experience can give you alot of insight. And though the net is full of alot of great resources nothing beats hands on training.
