Absolutely fantastic list, a treasure trove. The most important tip I think is #92. If you want to make progress, slow the [bleep] down! It's not how many notes you can play at warp speed, it's what can you do with whatever notes you choose. Each note is your friend, lover even. Take your time, get to know each one and commit to each one, don't treat them like you're always itching to get to the next one.

Great list of tips. However I wouldn't agree with #3 - I think a person should find a book/DVD or whatever that works for them, and go through it entirely, rather than just buying as many as they can. Otherwise you get information overload.

#4 is excellent advice though - I play bass, guitar and trumpet and it really gives you a broader understanding of what is going on.

Some really interesting tips and advice here. Most of which I would say are pretty essential for any beginner to stick to.

Nice!

Great advice, very encouraging.
Above all: everybody reading this: just relax somewhere with your guitar and have fun with it. Its no contest, its not a race...there are no winners and no losers. The music you make is something no one can take away.

Very informative! Thanks. I agree about the Wikipedia thing... reading their guitar sections just gives me a headache.

[...] Here is a list of 101 Guitar Tips that are worth checking out. Some of my personal favourites on the list inlcude these ones: If you go to the gym and are doing cardio or even weight lifting, you can count in sets of 4. Since most music is in 4/4 time this will also help your sense of rhythm. Working out with a portable music player will also help your rhythm. [...]

A good way to get access to some of the best one on one lessons is to join Love Movies or similiar. They have a huge amount of guitar tuition DVD's, that cover a multitude of styles. These DVD's can be expensive to buy or hard to get.
